Subterranean termites always make mud tubes to, and over wood they eat. It was formed in a just a few days.

 This basement wall is around 90 years old and has old cracks and peeling paint. The Subterranean Termite colony is in the ground outside this wall and is sending out scouts right through the wall trying to find wood to eat. These scout workers always cover their trails with mud to protect them from light and possible danger.
